Abstract:
This report is based on the findings and the activities carried out during the internship period at Busitema University under the library department.
Under the department I carried out various activities of which they included Dusting, Book sorting, classification, accessioning, stamping, original and copy cataloguing, shelving among others.
While handling these tasks I gained a lot of experience and knowledge on how to handle library profession, problem solving and leadership among others.
For the period of Six weeks, I have spent with the institution, I was able to grasp new practical skills, knowledge and experience in problem solving, cataloguing books, experience in Classification, monitoring and serving the institution’s library users and many other disciplines.
I also experienced various challenges during my training, difficulty in finding some class numbers, difficulty in assigning subject headings of some titles, on and off internet, power fluctuations, difficulty in finding what to eat among others
In conclusion, the internship training at Busitema was an attractive and exciting opportunity to me because it was practical rather than theory; shared experiences with the staff.
I recommend that the students be taught more of practical skills in class rather than theory; the BU to well prepare always to have the interns as they come.
